Optics Software for EducationProduct Literature Software from Lambda Research is a perfect complement to any educational environment. If you are associated with an educational institution, you have three options for using our software:
|
OPTO-MECHANICAL MODELING SOFTWARE TracePro is an award-winning solids-based ray tracing program that enables users to analyze, improve and validate the performance of opto-mechanical systems prior to fabrication. TracePro can evaluate light propagation to obtain uniform distributions, match specified flux levels or desired illumination patterns, observe stray light and other characteristics. TracePro is available in four editions; each edition is a superset of the previous edition. Our highest edition (TracePro Expert) will be made available to those who qualify for gratis use of the software. |
|
TracePro is perfect for optics demonstrations of situations where the light path is not necessarily known in advance, that is, where light paths interact with objects multiple times in a seemingly chaotic order. Examples include: light pipes (where the light from a single LED might be channeled to a number of locations on a dashboard or display), backlighting (where light from a small number of sources combine to create a homogeneously backlit LCD screen), medical applications (where light is scattered or fluoresced from human tissue for non-invasive diagnosis), and stray light analysis (where light scattered inside a camera lens is analyzed to evaluate how badly the stray light will degrade the camera image).

OPTICAL DESIGN SOFTWARE OSLO is the world’s most powerful and flexible optical design program with the capability to handle zoom camera systems, fiber couplers and everything in between. OSLO has powerful optimization features and its macro programming language will empower you with almost limitless capabilities for interactive design, analysis and fast ray tracing. OSLO is available in three editions; each edition is a superset of the previous edition. Our highest edition (OSLO Premium) will be made available to those who qualify for the gratis use of the software. |

OSLO is perfect for optical demonstrations of classical imaging systems and for teaching optical design concepts such as Focal Length, Numerical Aperture, Field of View, …etc. Examples include: optimization (explore how a single lens can produce such good performance in a CD player), tolerancing (find out how well a surface needs to be polished in a telescope to explore the rings of Saturn), analysis (explore diffraction and the fundamental limit that “perfect” optics can achieve), and testing (explore what went wrong with the Hubble Space Telescope).
