Littleton, Massachusetts, September 4, 2008 -- Lambda Research Corporation, developer of optical software OSLO, TracePro®, and TracePro Bridge™ for SolidWorks®, announces the upcoming release of the lens design software, OSLO. The latest posting of an early access features for OSLO is the implementation of a method to design more easily manufactured aspheres. It is fair to state that more manufacturability equals less expensive process. Also added in early access is new translation of CODE V files to OSLO. Forbes aspheres, developed by QED’s Dr. Greg Forbes, provide a means to design these aspheres. This recently developed rotationally-symmetric asphere representation is composed of orthogonal polynomials that achieve superior surface control for lens design with minimal variables. Among the many advantages are: superior numerical stability, direct surface tolerancing with the aspheric coefficients, natural aberration control without alternating high-order polynomial aberration balancing endemic to the traditional monomial representation, and direct enforcement of manufacturability constraints in optimization. Another highlight of this new feature is a new method to have more direct control of the translation process when importing Code V files into OSLO. A macro was developed that imports CodeV *.SEQ files into OSLO. These general categories are in the translated lens data: specification data, private glass data, solves and pickups, tilts and decenters, surface shapes and position, simple aperture/edge definition data, multi-configuration data, aspheric surface data(excluding spline surface data) and grating and holographic surface data. Current OSLO customers will find the early access to these available for download on Lambda Research’s web site at http://www.lambdares.com/technical_support/oslo/early_access/_____________________________ Based in Littleton, Mass., Lambda Research Corporation was founded in 1992 and is a privately held company.
